Purposefully posting this to my personal account even though it relates to [livejournal.com profile] ogsafehaven.

I'm working on the background & characters for my original story and pinging in the back of my head is the pov. Not only for the story but my writing style pov.

Over the last 18 yrs it's been 3rd person limited or 3rd person omniscient.

I feel comfortable writing in that POV and I know that I don't want The Safe Haven Trail written in another POV, but is that what's best for the story?

The scarier thing I have to think about now, is what the driving force of the story is.

As I discover more about these characters, it's becomming apparent that this is about family and the supernatural is a minor point...almost an afterthought of "oh...this would make the story cooler".

Since I actually haven't devoted much thought to the supernatural aspect, do I keep it or remove it?

What the heck...I'll do this too.

It goes like this: you go to page seven (or seventy-seven) of your WIP and select seven lines to post. Then you tag seven other people to play.

Finding 7 stories was easy. Finding 7 lines was much harder.

I'm expanding a short fic into a longer fic for a big bang and one of the chapters I can't figure out how to reference the original story without actually using the original story.

eta I think I figured out how I can do this. I can use the dialog because the rest brings up stuff I will have mentioned earlier in the story and i don't want to be repetitive.

if a fic you edit gets more comments/kudos than something you wrote, how does that make you feel?

I'm confused and yeah, a tad bit jealous.

but I guess it's really a testament to how good their story is, but then that still doesn't make me feel any better.

how to I get my Word spell checker to stay in US English?

This fic I'm beta reading was written with a version of Word from Ireland, so the spell checker/dictionary that's coming up is using English from Ireland. My Hawaiian words, contractions and slang words are coming up as wrong. It's also saying the grammar is wrong as well.

Anyone know how to fix this?

eta: got it sorted. yay

I'm beta reading something for someone (whose native language isn't English...I don't think) and they straight copied and pasted wedding vows from somewhere for Danny and Steve, but didn't change the feminine words to masculine!

I already have my work cut out with the other parts I'm beta reading for them for another story.

holy moley!

I beta checking a chapter of a fic and while it's only the 2nd chapter, I wear this author is comma happy and anti-all other punctuation.

It's making my already present headache worse, but I'm determined to help this author because I like the simple story she has going.

I've got roughly 2 months and 6 days until my rough draft for [livejournal.com profile] journeystory is due. I signed up back in June, so by all accounts, I should be wrapping this baby up. however, I'm still tweaking it and scrapping my (I lost count of the number) idea and going back to the probably 3rd idea I had. A collection of letters between Danny and Steve written during Steve's deployment. I still haven't figured out if I'm going to alternate between the 2 points of view for the 10 letters I'll be writing (basically 5 letters from Steve and 5 letters from Danny)...so I've got to figure it out soon!

working on a Danny and Grace fic that I hope turns out fluffy

I was hoping that it would work with my [community profile] cottoncandy_bingo card, but from the outline, I don't think it'll fit any of the squares.

That's okay. I really need to write something.

In the mean time. I should catch as many Zzzzz's as I can. I haven't been sleeping well the last few nights

I kinda sorta hate it when readers don't read warnings, author's notes, summaries and leave comments/questions when the answer in given in the warnings, author's notes and/or summary.

We don't write up that stuff for the hell of it, okay, maybe some do, but I don't.

If I bold, underline and/or italicize that the piece is an AU one shot where 5-0 wasn't form, please don't ask if there's going to be more, or if Danny is going to tell Steve about Kono and use her for undercover work.

UGH! come on now people! PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU READ!

annoyed so much that I've had to create a "reading advice" tag

I was feeling pretty frazzled last night (just ask [livejournal.com profile] huntress69) and ended up asking my dad to look over my [livejournal.com profile] casestory BB because it was down to the wire and I couldn't think of anyone online who could beta my 16,000 word fic.

while he did that, I worked on some graphics. Got 1.5 done.

I'm going to be working on this the rest of the day - going over the corrections my dad made and making graphics.

I'll probably end up positing it like 10pm or 11pm

You guys! I’m…umm…confused.

I’m trying to wrap up this [livejournal.com profile] casestory fic, but it just won’t end.

It’s already to 14,096 words and I haven’t even caught the bad guys! I've identified them, the good guys know about them, but I don’t know HOW to get the police to the point of catching the bad guys!

And I really need to get this ending to my beta ASAP.

crap crap CRAP!

I was supposed to have been done with my [livejournal.com profile] casestory fic LAST WEEK so that I could find a beta.

I don't post until July 10th, but I need to give myself at least 4 days for corrections and coding, so I'd need to have it back from the beta by July 6. I would HOPE that 2 weeks is enough beta time, so that means I need to be sending it to beta no later than this Friday, June 22.

UGH

I have 2.5 parts left to finish. meh

eta took out a section on the part I'm working on and now I'm down to 2 parts. w00t!

I have an idea for the fic I'm doing for [livejournal.com profile] h50_exchange, but it's not sparking.

and my list of ideas aren't sparking either.

this is...sucking a lot.

more work

I probably just created more work for myself, but I printed out the first 2 parts (15 pages) of my [livejournal.com profile] casestory fic and I'm editing them with red pen. but that wasn't the reason I printed them out. I wanted them so that I could easily refer to them while working on parts 3, 4 and 5 and I didn't have to continually open the documents for those parts. once i finish part 3, I'll print that out to help with part 4 and 5...later, rinse, repeat until the story is complete.

Then I'll go through and transfer the corrections from the hard copy to the digital copy and email to my beta ([livejournal.com profile] huntress69, will you be able to look over 10-12k words? I don't know when I'll be finish with it, but I hope I'll be done in the next 14-15 days)

working with the hard copy of this fic reminds me of editing essays for school...or how I used to hand write my fics back when I first started writing in 2002. and also reading this out loud has me feeling better about the story as a whole. not quite as much self doubt and comparing going on.
simplyn2deep: (Default)
I've never been one for comparing my fics with other fics, but for some reason, I'm thinking mine is going to totally suck.

Reading part 2 of [livejournal.com profile] kristen999's [livejournal.com profile] casestory fic High Stakes, Desperate Measures and wishing mine read just as good as hers.

And on top of that, I've got a month until I'm to post. I really shouldn't have procrastinated, but I'll make the 10,000 and probably then some. I also need to finish it soon because I need to find a beta and email [livejournal.com profile] bluedelft the pics for the graphics.

I think I might have accidentally extended But Why Daddy? by a chapter (or two), but I'm really trying not to make that happen.

I'm working on chapter 17 (which won't get posted on Wednesday like it's supposed to) and I'm trying to advance the story for the 3 year time jump in the epilogue/chapter 18, but I don't want to bog down 17 with too much.

I hate ending multi-chapter fics with odd numbers. That's one of my fic hang ups - even numbered chapters!

well crap

I had a book on ciphers and it was kind of important to the fic I'm working on...and now I can't find that book so I'm sort of screwed.

I remember the book was yellow and belonged to my brother or sister when they were in school...so it's pretty old.

but it's not on my bookshelf, and I don't know where it can be. Looks like I'm going to have to put this fic on hold until I find the book, or another book on codes and ciphers.

arg!

I have to remember this fic I'm working on is past tense. I need to get in the habit of writing in that form, but I keep slipping to present tense.

good thing this fic will be beta read before I post it.

In an hour, broken up into two 30 minutes blocks, I wrote 650 words (or there abouts).

There's 9 fics in my one shot: to complete folder and I wanted to work on one to see if I could finish it, but all of them I stopped in a spot where I can't remember where I was going with the story, or I've lost interest with the story all together. Some of them, the ones that are less than a couple of started paragraphs, I'll offer for adoption. The others that have a good chunk written (200+ words) I'll keep and hope inspiration strikes again and I'll be able to pick them up again.

Until then, I should concentrate on my big works in progress. The 2 big bangs and my chaptered stories.
