well crap

I had a book on ciphers and it was kind of important to the fic I'm working on...and now I can't find that book so I'm sort of screwed.

I remember the book was yellow and belonged to my brother or sister when they were in school...so it's pretty old.

but it's not on my bookshelf, and I don't know where it can be. Looks like I'm going to have to put this fic on hold until I find the book, or another book on codes and ciphers.

I beta read a story for someone where English wasn't their first language and corrected the errors to "Americanize" it, but when they posted it, it was like I didn't even touch the story!

There are errors I know I would have corrected and it makes me sort of cringe reading it. I'm comparing it to the corrected version I have still saved and I'm like "it's been changed back?"

Why did I spend nearly a month correcting the fic if my corrections were going to be tossed aside or changed back?

I dread how long it's going to take me to code other stuff for the fic I'm writing. OMG

I wish I had a program where I could input the text I wanted coded, choose the code and bam, coded text. that would be so much easier for the purpose of this fic.

eta: I figured out why this particular cipher was so difficult to "get". it required a 3 shift to the left and I kept wanted to go to the right 3 spaces.

now I don't have to worry about that because [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] pointed me in the direction of a couple of useful sites. it'll make my coded text so much easier (as I don't have to do much thinking lol)

it makes me giggle

reading part 8 of huntress69's Out of the Past and there was a part where it was said that Steve gives a running commentary of everything he and Danny does and he has a filthy mouth...well in my head, it's clearly Steve, but with Alex's accent and it just makes me giggle.

I hope this isn't the summer where anything I read that's supposed to be Steve McGarrett sounds like Alex O'Loughlin. It'd be amusing, but I think my neighbors are tired of the Hawaii Five-0 theme song. They hear it every morning thanks to my alarm.
