I beta read a story for someone where English wasn't their first language and corrected the errors to "Americanize" it, but when they posted it, it was like I didn't even touch the story!

There are errors I know I would have corrected and it makes me sort of cringe reading it. I'm comparing it to the corrected version I have still saved and I'm like "it's been changed back?"

Why did I spend nearly a month correcting the fic if my corrections were going to be tossed aside or changed back?

That really is annoying especially if you didn't discuss it. Ultimately, it's up to the author in what she or he posts, but it's much nicer when they talk it over with you. Beta reading is a long and tedious process. Takes a lot of time.

Maybe it was an accident and the author posted a previously saved fic. That could happen.

could be a possibility. I also corrected the format and that hadn't been changed.

I went back and re-read the corrected fic and found more errors. If I would have had longer than a month to work on it, I probably could have caught them all, but I was on a deadline. the author wrote it as a gift for a friend and a month was all the time I had.

I beta-ed for a story 6 years ago and it was over 150,000 long. After I had corrected it and sent it back the author decided I didn't know what I was doing and published it anyway. Never again. I know how you feel sim
