Out with 2020, In with 2021!
1. What was the best thing about 2020?
I didn't get sick, nor did anyone in my immediate family

2. What lessons from 2020 will you carry into 2021?
It's okay to socially distance from people...especially if you think you might be sick

3. How did you spend your New Year's Eve?
in bed until 11:50pm, then I got 12 grapes and prepared for the countdown

4. Legend says what you did at midnight on New Year's Eve/Day is what you'll do all year. So what did you do?
Let me put it this way, one NYE, I spent it at a party with people I thought could become friends, but then never saw them again and another "friendship" was ruined.

5. What are you most looking forward to in 2021?
Covid-vaccine and taking more classes. I'm like 5 away from being able to transfer to a university to do actual bachelor's degree coursework.

I've got nothing else to add for the night. Okay, I sort of do, but I'm really tired and I want to lay down and just rest.

Tomorrow is Saturday!

Friday Five from [livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive

1) What is your favorite December holiday food?
I don't know that I have one

2) What is your favorite December holiday beverage?
Hot chocolate

3) What is your favorite December holiday song?
O Holy Night or Do You Hear What I Hear

4) What is your favorite December holiday tradition?
I don't know if it's a tradition, but I miss my family. Specifically my parents. I've lived with them my entire life and even the first Christmas after my dad died. it was okay, because my mom was still there, but then the next year, she was across the country and I was with my sister and her kids and it didn't feel right. Five Christmases late and it still feels like that. I'm in a constant state of waiting to go home.

5) What is the one thing you will miss most this December because of the pandemic?
I've missed all of the church activities that would have happened this month. Various Christmas parties and the Cantata.

Just wondering...
Do you know anyone who smokes a pipe?
I used to know someone who smoked a pipe, but it's been gone like 15-18 years

What’s your cure for hiccups?
I either try to continously drink water or hold my breath

What invention doesn’t get a lot of love, but has greatly improved the world?
Anything dealing with personal hygiene! Being able to brish your teeth and take a bath/shower is great!

============

I'm so exhausted from today. I'll have pictures tomorrow of the food and everything tomorrow. Right now I want to take off my pants, crawl into bed and go to sleep.

But I will say the turkey was great. It was fall off the bone great! I don't know that I ever want the stress of cooking a turkey again. Now a ham, I will gladly do that for Easter and Christmas next year, but I don't want to deal with a turkey.

Good night and Merry Christmas. I hope your day was great!

Friday Five from [livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive

1. How much rain do you get as a yearly average?
For my specific city - 14 inches
2. How much snow do you get as a yearly average?
Again, for my specific city, ZERO! Thank God!
3. Too much sun or not enough?
I think just the right amount, but we need more trees to provide shade because when it gets to be high noon, the sun is brutal!
4. When was the last time you looked for shapes in the clouds?
Probably last summer when I went to the beach with the church or the mountains with the church

5. What was the worst weather event to hit your area in recent years?
Depends on what recent is. Yearly, there are fires throughout California, but I remember back in 2016, it rained a shitton! So much so that the street where my sister lives flooded! I had a little Toyota Yaris and I had to go through a few neighborhood intersections really slow because water was so high. It was scary but I needed to go out because my niece needed a ride home from a trip with her school.

Not a very good picture, but I got my hair done! I like how it came out.

My stylist was shocked and pleased at how much my hair grew and was still soft despite it being 10 months since she last worked on it.

Honestly, I was surprised because I don't wash it frequently, maybe 3 times in the last 10 months? I know people are shocked/disgusted by that, but my hair doesn't need to be washed frequently...also I'm a lazy bitch lol

But, she trimmed the ends before she started working on it. And I think she took her sweet time doing that. My appt was scheduled for 1-3:45pm, but it ended up being something like 1:15-4:50pm!

My hair will last about 2 months like this. I'll probably take it down after about 6 weeks and let it breath for a couple of weeks before going back and getting it done again. I liked how this turn out so much, I'm going to do it again. I like having my hair done special before holidays, so the next time I'll get it done will be right before Valentine's Day.

We had our annual church meeting today. This was the 2nd virtual church meeting that we've had. The last one was in June.

I can't believe we've been in quarentine/lockdown/whatever for this long! March 15 was our last regular church service.

During this annual meeting, the Pastor said to prepare for at least another 6 months of virtual or parking lot services.

I've done 9 months and I remember when I was really worried, to the point of crying, about not being able to do this anymore...but I survived and I've accepted it.

I could easily do another 6 months, but I really don't want to. I'm actually starting to miss getting/giving hugs and I don't normally like to do that.

My hair is wrapped up and I'm going to bed. Hoping for a lowkey Saturday. I'll help Kim with her shower and do her nails because Sunday is our Christmas service at church.

Here are today's questions from [livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive.

1) What is your favorite thing about the winter?
I get to wear a lot of the cute sweaters I bought in previous winters...plus leggings!

2) What is your favorite winter sport?
I...don't know that I have a favorite winter sport? Oh! Maybe hockey?

3) What is the best winter treat?
Fudge? Hot chocolate? Hot apple cider?

4) What is the earliest time in the year it ever snowed where you live?
It doesn't snow in my part of Southern California. But I want to say 2 or 3 hours drive north of me in the mountains, it will snow there if it's cold enough when it rains. But I don't ever pay attention to it because I never get to go to it.

5) What is the best way to stay warm in the winter?
Lots of blankets and fuzzy socks

Put together the Christmas menu for dinner on Christmas day. I did the Easter meal for me and Kim, but the ham is so much easier to prepare than a freakin' turkey!

But freakin' Colleen is like "oh we should do it because you have the turkey in the freezer" So now I've spent all this extra money getting a roaster pan, additional vegetables to put in with the turkey while it cooks, and a freakin' instant-read thermometer...basically stuff that I couldn't purchase with my EBT funds because they weren't food items but somehow my turkey roaster bags were covered? I'm confused.

So I've dipped into my fund that I had to get my hair done to buy these things...so I need to quick like sell some Color Street to make that money back before December 18 because I am not canceling my appointment.

Today's [livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive questions are about anniversary gifts.

1) What are your favorite things that are paper?
I'm really into journals/planners...even though I do my journaling online (or I'm trying to) and my planner is in my phone...but there are some CUTE planners that I'd LOVE to have.

2) What are your favorite things that are cotton?
Shirts? Maybe bedding? I don't really think about it.

3) What are your favorite things that are leather?
Shoes and purses. I'd love to have a leather jacket.

4) What are your favorite things that are floral?
Perfume. But just a hint of it, nothing too overpowerful that even with one spray you can give yourself a MIGRAINE!

5) What are your favorite things that are wood?
Frames. Summers ago I got into painting frames with acrylic paint. well really, any type of wooden object found at Michael's, but I stuck to frames. I can't wait to get back to doing them.

=========================================================

I COMPLETELY forgot that I had business law homework to do today! I thought I'd start on if after watching MacGyver, but now that I'm in front of my laptop, I'm too tired to pull it up - I just want to put on a movie and sleep.

So, I'll do it tomorrow while listening to Christmas music.

PS We are up to 15 people from my church who tested positive for covid-19. At least 3 that I know of had symptoms. I don't see us going back to church (outside in person) the rest of the year. I hope it's addressed at next Friday's year-end business meeting (via Webex Meetings).

1. Where do you get most of your pandemic-related news?
Ummm...I don't? Like I'm fairly oblivious to what's going on, but if someone says something that seems wildly inaccurate, I'll google and search around before believing anything they've said. But I do have the citizen app on my phone that alerts me to a lot of changes on a county level.

2. How do you feel about your local government’s leadership during this pandemic?
It's been hit or miss? I honestly haven't been following along.

3. What does your favorite mask look like, and about how many masks have you accumulated?
My favorite one is a Muppet babies one that a friend's mother made for me. I have 2 or 3 masks. I go out maybe once or twice a week and hand wash my mask after I use it...and while it's drying I move on to the next mask.

4. Where have you most often had takeout during this pandemic?
I've done far too much takeout/delivery from GrubHub. Usually McDonald's, Burger King, Panda Express, a couple of good Mexican places. It definitely contributed to my weight gain.

5. What new interests, skills, or hobbies have you picked up since mid-March?
In April I started selling (or trying to sell) Color Street. I don't go anywhere to show off my pretty nails, but they're pretty nonetheless and I can put them on myself in about 20 mins and they start at $11!

======

Earlier I had a migraine. It totally skipped headache land and went right to migraine city. I think this is the 2nd one I've had this year/ever. I took a 650 mg tablet of acetaminophen extended-release and tried to get comfortable. Eventually, I went to sleep for a few hours and was apparently dead to the world until about 5:50 pm when Kim got her daily call from a church friend and I heard the phone ring.

Now it's past where I would be getting ready for bed and I'm yawning a lot, so I should definitely get ready for bed. thankfully tomorrow is Saturday.

OH! That reminds me...Covid is reaching closer to home now, so to speak. My Pastor's daughter is pregnant and she lost her sense of taste in the last couple of days. She and her husband have been tested and are quarantining. They also have 2 young daughters. On top of that, the Pastor and his wife have to quarantine because they have come into contact with one or both of them when the daughters are dropped off while the parents go to work.

Sunday is going to be interesting. The Pastor might not be there to give the message and we are out a bass player and singer. Like I said, Sunday will be interesting, but so far not canceled.

One of my friends thinks he has bronchitis, but he's going to be checked for that and covid on Monday, he's been self-isolating for the last couple of days.

Okay, now I'm really going to bed.
