First I heard back from FAFSA about my financial aid and my application was processed successfully!

Then I heard back from Cerritos, and that application was accepted!

LOOKS LIKE I'M GOING BACK TO SCHOOL!

I'm looking around the college's access website (where I'll register for classes and have access to my grades) and it looks like I won't have to take many classes over. This is good, but also bad. Good that I don't have to take the class over, but bad that I have to find more classes to be considered a full time student (3-5 classes).

I'll need to have 2 sets of transcripts sent to this college, but thankfully I have like 2 months to get that done. Fall classes probably start the 2nd or 3 week in August. I'm so looking forward to playing email/phone tag to get that accomplished from ICDC!

I also need to make an appointment with a counselor. That needs to be done soon as well. Preferably once transcripts have been delivered, but I'll call and ask to be sure.

I'm just so happy!

Funny thing...I haven't told my parents yet. When I got the 2 acceptance emails, I went to twitter and facebook first. My parents are on FB, but don't go to my page unless I tag them. I don't plan on tagging them with this news. It probably seems weird to others for me not to tell my parents since we live in the same apartment and everything, but I just don't want to until it's time for me to pick my classes. I don't want to hear the lectures or deal with the arguments.

I'm doing what it takes for me to get a full time job. Employers want someone with a Bachelor's Degree? Okay, I'll go back to school for that and who knows, I might find a job on campus when I eventually no longer have the job with the church (due to a potential merger and a bunch of other unexpected stuff).

For the last 6 months I'd been hoping that a position with Legal Aid would open up, but I don't think that's looking good. They're steady getting volunteers, but to my knowledge, no one is being hired.

AND

grads-1

This is awesome news!!! I'm so happy for you!!

Do you know what you are going to study? Because you'll excel at whatever you decide! I know you will!

BTW I don't know if you know this, but you don't have to attend classes full time to receive financial aid. If you take 3 classes which is generally 9 hours, you'll receive 75% of your financial aid. Depending on the type that you have, that could be enough be fully fund your tuition and leave you enough to live on. Either way, this is very exciting news!

Also, ASK QUESTIONS!!! A lot of students get lost and confused because they don't think to ask questions. It seems obvious that asking would help. But I think students are too shy or too intimidated to question everything. Trust me - question every thing!!! (I learned A LOT about colleges when I worked for them!)

Thank you. I'm going for public administration with a concentration in criminal justice administration.

The aid I qualified for was a Pell Grant then also extend the student loans I currently have. I figure if I get both, the pell grant can cover books and the loans can cover my course fees.

My first time around at this school I have virtually no guidance. the counselors jerked me around. I transferred to another college and they were much better - I got my degree from them. I wanted to go back, but they didn't have the program I wanted to go into. That really bummed me out.

Congrats! How exciting!

I'm betting Legal Aid doesn't have much of a budget.

Thanks.

From what I heard, Legal Aid is lots of federal/local/state funding...and...we know how that's all going at the moment. But it's been an excellent experience and I'l continue to volunteer until I make my class schedule and have to give it up or change my schedule.

Thank you. I'm hoping that it does open more door. I'd love to get my foot into another side of the legal world...not the criminal side where I'd end up with a record lol

Great news and good for you - go out there and get what you want for yourself, it isn't about anyone elses opinion (including your parents). Sometimes it's about taking that control of our own lives and going with it, despite the naysayers and you do not know where this will lead. Just be positive and see what it brings.

Thank you. I'm just waiting for the right moment to tell my parents. I know if I tell anyone I work with, they'll tell my parents, then my parents will come to me and it will just be drama up the wazoo
