But after the comment storm in the episode discussion thread at stevedannoslash 2 weeks ago, I made an post that I wanted to keep the episode discussion threads solely for discussing the episode and/or show...and then in yesterday's thread someone commented a lot (albeit in 2 comments) about the personal life of one of the actors.

So I messaged that person asking if they could refrain from doing that.

This is where I feel like a bitch and a bit of a hypocrite because I've been known to comment on the personal lives of the actors...giving information that I heard from other sources without the least bit of evidence as to if what I was saying was true or not, but never to the lengths that this person has gone.

I need to stop that. I need for the people in the community I mod & own to stop that.

I don't think you have to apologize or make excuses...but you do need to make peace with your conscience.....however you feel you need to....

Thank you. I'm dealing with it. I just didn't want others to feel like I'm keeping them from discussing the show

I am the mod for several community boards and its always so hard to step in and police people. What I try to remember is that I am doing the policing not really for those who areactively commenting and posting, but for the lurkers.

The internet is, unfortunately, a place where the current culture not only permits but even encourages bullying and other types of hate behavior. So for me, I try to remind myself I am ensuring my boards are places that lurkers who have probably ran into that elsewhere, will see this kind of behavior is not tolerated, and the rules are very clear. I still feel guilty for having to police people though!

I think you are absolutely doing the right thing. My suggestion would be to go one step further and repost your mod post about the community's position on commenting on actor's personal lives, so others know you are aware of the comments just made and you are actively policing the community. As much as that sucks to have to do :(

After reading the thread I know who it was you had to send the PM too. Warning...she will probably send you the longest PM you have ever seen telling you why she is right and you're wrong and end it with saying that it's your comm and you can do what you want.

Thank you. So far it's been okay, but the long winded comments giving more information than is needed isn't necessary.

My PM to her was the second warning. Whether she responds or not (so far she hasn't), if she does it again, I will be banning her.

I so agree in regards to the long winded comments. They drive me crazy and makes it sound like she is the only one who knows anything and we need her to 'educate' us.

If she does it again I don't blame you at all if you ban her. You've sent her PMs and have posted to the comm.
