Since I started watching [livejournal.com profile] thefridayfive earlier this week, I've been looking forward to answering the questions today. Anything to get me my back in the habit of writing daily...or in this case, weekly.

Today's Friday Five

Nearly time for Thanksgiving here in the US and then a fast ramp up to Christmas. This year, of course, is very different from years past, but the holidays are coming be it Christmas, Hanukah, Kwanza, or another significant holiday for you at this time.

1. Have you started decorating for holidays yet or are you going to skip it this year?

We haven't started decorating this year. I usually pull out the stuff right after Thanksgiving. The spend the week cleaning and putting away any other decorations that might have been left out during the year and allow Kim (the lady I live with and take care of, for those who are new to following me) to decorate her apartment how she wants. I try to have that done by the first Sunday of December.

I don't know if that will happen this year.

2. Will your gift buying be more local or online this year because of restrictions?

It will be online...if we even have the money. Our financial situation hasn't changed, but it seems like this year, well the last 8 months, have been tighter financially. There are only 4 "people" (3 people and a family) I'll be getting gifts for and I'm sort of worried about how I'm going to do that on top of my other bills I still have to pay.

3. Will you be doing something ‘extra’ to try and give this year’s celebration a bit more sparkle?

My something "extra" this year will be sparkly Christmas manicures for myself and Kim that I will likely do after Thanksgiving.

4. No parties this year, but how are you reaching out to family and friends to wish them well?

If I remember, and get stamps, Christmas cards will be going out. Otherwise, text messages and FB messages/posts on FB will have to do.

5. Do you believe in Krampus? If you don't know who it is, follow the link.

I don't believe in Krampus, but all that I know of it/him is what I read up on when the movie came out in 2015.

Until next time. Hopefully not next Friday, but maybe sometime during the week.

Came into the office because I needed to post a fic for h50_holidayswaph50_holidayswap and to properly clean out my e-mail.

Now that I've done that, I'm going to get some lunch and head back to my sister's.

My niece (and to a lesser extent my nephew) have been horrible pains and I've gone back and forth about getting them gift cards and it's kind of like the 11th hour, so to speak, for getting them something.

I can't believe I'm going to say this (again), but I will be so glad when my parents come back on Jan 9th! I need my own space (that isn't shared with everyone else)!

I've done more thinking about going back to school. It looks like Cal State Long Beach is only accepting students for certain programs? I don't know. The site was confusing. I should probably go and speak with a counselor or something. I'm also looking at Cal State Dominguez Hills as they have a Criminal Justice Administration Bachelor's Degree program. CSULB and CSUDH are the only universities near me that have Criminal Justice Bachelor's degree programs. Going out of state is an option but it's one that I'm sort of scared to do and NOT succeed at because I'll be so far away from home.

Merry Christmas /\/\/\ Mele Kalikimaka

has it really been 3-4 days since I last posted? According to the calender here, it has been. sorry?

Still having internet problems, however the bill was just paid so I'm hoping sometime this week or the beginning of next week the speed picks back up. If it doesn't, then maybe there's some other problem and I just don't know how to search it out.

After being able to drive myself around for the last 27 days or so, the car is officially dead. After the unsuccessful jump-starting on Thursday, my sister and the mechanic both said its more the likely the alternator that's gone bad or whatever and is preventing the car battery from staying charged. I told my dad all of this and that I was in contact with the mechanic, and he said for me to leave the car where it is (which is in the parking lot at the church) and he'd deal with it when they got back in January. Lovely.

Looks like I'm back to riding the bus. *sighs*

I have been toying with the idea of renting a car for December 21-24, but I know that's a waste of money. I'll just have to rely on the bus to get the grocery shopping for the church Christmas dinner done and then ask my sister to take me to storage so that I can get the crock pots and dutch ovens for what I'm going to cook. And on the 23rd, I'll be at the church pretty much the whole day like usual. Church service, lunch, decorate for dinner, cook my parts of the dinner, and put all the food out. By then people will be arriving.

As of Saturday, we still haven't gotten any of our forwarded mail! I put in the request on November 19 and there's been no mail from November 23rd-December 8th! There will be major major hell to pay if any of the mail was returned to sender. Because according to the postal clerks I spoke with, it would take 14 (business) days to process the temporary change of address and the mail would be delivered after that. Well, 14 (business) days I guess would be today, but honestly, I don't know. Two clerks previously told me 7-10 (business) days and I'd have mail, then suddenly it was 14 (business) days. I don't even know if my sister is at the house or knows if the mail has come yet before I head to the post office to complain to someone about not having mail (I'd also like to tell my dad something other than "No, the mail hasn't been delivered yet.") eta Just texted with my sister. She said that the post office sent a post card confirming that our address has been temporarily changed to her address. But no other mail. So does this mean tomorrow we'll start getting mail? I fucking hope so! This is just ridiculous!
