writing year in review

a lot of the (H50) writers on my flist have done the detailed writing year in review meme thingy, but I honestly don't feel like it
I will do a shortened version of it though.
2011 FanFic Summary
Stories published this year: 26 on AO3 and 28 (I believe) at
writergurlscrn
WIPs: 14
This year I wrote and posted: all in H50 fandom: 23,859 words!
Overall Thoughts: I don't think I would have started writing in the fandom had it not been for one of
powrhug's Drabble Fests. I also don't think I would have written my first slash drabble had it not been for one of her fests as well. That started back in August (8-9 to be exact lol). Since then I have a list probably 30 deep of story ideas that I'm just waiting for inspiration to tell me where to go.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted? I really wasn't expecting or planning on writing in the fandom. I'd read so many great stories and I didn't think I could compete with those writer. Slowly I'm learning that it's not a competition with others but more with myself - pushing to write more than I had the previous day/week.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January? Danny/Steve. I wasn't quiet in declaring my love for Danny/Kono since episode 103, but fic for that pairing was lacking and that played in my motivation to write for the pairing (I wrote 3 drabbles and have several WIPs for them) so I kind of stumbled into Danny/Steve - again, thanks to
powrhug
What's your own favorite story of the year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you happiest? For a while it was Call Me Danno, then Danno's Rules
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? deciding to write in general was a risk, but probably the biggest one was dipping my toes in slash. I learned that, for me, writing slash is similar to writing het, but that one of the main characters is also a man was the only difference
From my past year of writing, what was....
My most popular story of this year: Danno's Rules
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: any of them? LOL maybe with the exception of Danno's Rules
Most fun story to write: I think without a doubt Danno's Rules was the most fun to write. Steve has done so much "wrong" that Danny probably has a rule for everything and it's been fun asking others what those rules might be, then creating scenarios as to HOW those rules came to be.
Hardest story to write: probably my Danny/Kono stories once I started writing Danny/Steve. I just couldn't get back into the correct mindset to write them
Biggest Disappointment: Call Me Danno - putting aside the fact that it's a Danny/Kono story, I love the case that I created, but the story as a whole wasn't going the way I initially planned and that bummed me out
Biggest Surprise: not really a surprise considering I did a drabble about one of Steve's infamous rules and ppl who read it were like "now what are some of this other rules?" well instead of doing more of Steve's rules, I created Danno's Rules. That got a lot of feedback and a lot of prompts/rules for me to write about.
Fic-writing goals for 2012: to write at least 100 words a day (yikes! I gotta start on that in less than 4 hrs 45 mins!); also I'd want to participate in more fic writing challenges - I signed up for 2 or 3 exchanges that's to take place next year and I'm sure there will be more
I will do a shortened version of it though.
