more confidence
Apr. 19th, 2012 12:55 pmAbout 6 years ago I was with a temp agency and got one job, then my account executive had a hard time placing me with other employers, so I said I'd try someplace else. Someplace else didn't work out either. Now I'm back with the same temp agency and the same account executive, but I feel much more confident this time around.
She told me some things straight - things that I knew but didn't want to accept (when I first heard them). She gave me suggestions on how to change my resume around. She didn’t want me to be excluded from anything I was qualified simply because my work experience is with churches and I could come off as a "holy roller" (even though I’m far from that). She also said she didn't want me to date myself so I need to remove the years from some of my educational entries. She also said a lot of the clients who turn to the agency for workers are “Good Ol' Boys” and again, she wouldn’t want me to be excluded from anything because I was a member of the Black Student Union (I just removed that all together).
So I’m going to update my resume and e-mail it back to her so that she can look it over and send it off to the 3 clients she said she already had in mind. I have my fingers crossed something comes along in the temp-hire or direct hire positions.
