more about college!

first things first: YA'LL! I just submitted my application for my associate degree!
It will be my second one, but this one is with the intention of transferring to a university!
I have like 6 or 7 months to decide on the universities I want to apply to.
More work in finding the right business school for me. I'm thinking Healthcare Management or Hospitality (so that I can put my first associate's degree to use - it's in Travel/Tourism).
Next, my JC/CC has this agreement with MOST Cal State Universities in California that any transferring student with their AS/AA degree from that college, has a "guaranteed spot" whatever Cal State University they apply to. What this "guaranteed spot" means, to my understanding, is that they have priority over other students who are transferring in.
Cool. This helps me with deciding which universities I want to apply to...it also helps me decide my concentration for my bachelor's degree.
Yes, I want Business Administration, but what concentration? Each of the Cal States that has a business administration program offers something different. I wish they all offered the same things, but *shrug*
This is what I have in mind, so far (thanks to a friend who worked admissions at USC, she convinced me to look at universities in other states that had good business schools)
Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri
Bachelor's Business Administration Healthcare Management or Organization and Strategic Management
CUNY Baruch College
Bachelor's Business Administration Human Resources Management (Minor in Social Innovation)
Cal State LA
Bachelor's Business Administration Healthcare Administration (later, possibly Master of Science in Healthcare Management) or Human Resource Management or Management
Biola University (online offered)
Bachelor's Business Administration Management
Whittier College
Bachelor's Business Administration (I haven't found if they have any concentrations. I'll find out when I go on a campus tour on Feb 5)
Cal State Fullerton
Bachelor's Business Administration Entertainment and Hospitality Management or General Management or Human Resources Management
University of California - Riverside
Bachelor's Business Administration Management or Operations and Supply Chain Management
Arizona State (online offered)
Bachelor's Business Administration (I haven't found if they have any concentrations.)
Wayne State University
Bachelor's Business Administration Information systems management or Management
Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
Bachelor's Business Administration Management and Human Resources
Howard University
Bachelor's Business Administration Management or Supply Chain Management or Health Management (but this is in the nursing program, I believe)
That's a lot of schools, right?! I could throw even more caution to the wind and apply to all of them, but I'm thinking realistically and what I can afford out of pocket (getting student loans is likely out bc I still have other ones from when I got scammed by ICDC College).
It would be cool to go out of state, but I don't have the money for a big cross country move, though I might be able to afford moving to Arizona or Michigan (Wayne State).
I have time to think about it. A lot of these schools don't begin accepting applications until August or even October/November.

Date: 2022-01-29 12:50 am (UTC)Washington University was the first school my friend recommended to me not realizing that I wanted to (at the time) stay in California. But the more I talked to her, the more she got me to realize that remaining in state could limit my possibilities. It doesn't hurt to apply to out-of-state schools...then come back to California when I finish or I could decide to remain in whatever state I happen to be in.
It's also like a 9-hour drive to where my mom is in Detroit. So that's a big plus.

Date: 2022-01-29 04:58 am (UTC)I would only seriously consider Michigan for my mom and to see family in between school. But I haven't even mentioned to her that Wayne State is on my list as its a back up choice because I'm not overly sure about wanting either of those concentrations.

Date: 2022-01-29 09:24 pm (UTC)Wow, that is a lot! Good luck deciding, and in getting in too! It sounds like the 'guaranteed' acceptance is more like 'preferential' treatment than a guarantee! You'd think a centre of learning would know the meaning of the word guarantee!
