I think it was cattrainecattraine who mentioned they hated when tags were abused on AO3?

well I happened to refresh the page and there was a new fic with so many fucking tags! Tooth-Rotting Fluff Like have your toothbrush and some insulin ready but also angst sigh Such angst But a happy ending! Happy Ending and SMUT Because of Reasons But mostly because the author is a kinky perv Hey at least I'm honest I seriously love tagging shit Fun with Tags Okay I'll let you read the story now I REGRET NOTHING

I completely agree.

If a lot of superfluous tags are used (and they are strung together like a sentence) to try to justify a stories existence then I'll generally skip it. If your story isn't good enough to stand on its own, without a lot of explanation from you, (you being general author 'you')it's probably not worth my time to read.

Yeah. Complain to AO3. If enough readers do, they will do something about it. They did when I pointed out someone was trying to use AO3 to drum up support for one of those idiotic popularity polls.

Ugh I think that people like this defeat the purpose of tags :/

this is true. I think people might have it confused with tumblr where it's okay for tagging gone wild

Yeah, My thoughts exactly. Just don't get why people have to do that in other sites.

Ugh. Someone's been on Tumblr a bit too much, it seems. I'd never read a story tagged like that.

It just makes me wonder about their fic in general. To me it's like, I dunno, you missed the clue bus on the basics of posting a fic. Tags are there to help people FIND your fic, therefore they are there for your (the authors) best interest if you want to reach your 'audience'. So tagging like this just makes me think of them as immature & inexperienced (within the fanfic 'world'). Personally, there are times I take too long trying to figure out HOW to tag my fics, because they can be warnings OR spoilers depending on how much I want to reveal to my readers.

If people can't figure out where to put a 'tag' and where to put a 'summary' or 'authors note' then my interest in their fic is nil.
