With the influx of "please don't spoil" I've seen on my friend's list, I think I'm going to take the following approach:

I will un-friend ANYONE who makes a comment in MY JOURNAL about how I should cut or tag something as being a spoiler.

Communities are completely different. I will put in all the proper coding to ensure that if something I post is a spoiler, it's properly hidden for anyone who has the community friended and they don't want to be spoiled.

In my personal journal, I'll do whatever I want. I might remember to hide something, but in all honesty, I might be too damn EXCITED to remember to do that.

Also, you won't see me complaining in anyone's personal journal how they should cut something that could be thought of as being a spoiler because chances are, if it's a show I watch, I've already seen the spoiler as well and by the time the actual episode airs, I will have forgotten about the spoiler, so it doesn't matter (to me).

So this is the only time I want to mention that. If you don't like this new policy I'm putting in place for MY JOURNAL, then by all means, feel free to remove me. It's not going to bother me.

Yet something else I have ranted about many times. I never knew about (TV show) spoilerphobes until I posted the title to an SPN ep during S2. Who could figure that somebody would go nuts over a friggin' title? It's not like you're giving away the ending. The same goes for guest stars. It still boggles my mind that if you post (as you did) that Toast is coming back, it spoils you? You know nothing about the plot, just an actor returning.

I've seen quite a few people say they didn't want to know anything about a show if it hasn't been aired or whatever. short of saying "go live in a cave", this is my solution.

also, lately when I've been doing the cut tags, it's been to thumb my nose at someone I've already removed from my flist for making a bit to do about something I accidentally forgot to properly mark as spoiler when posting in a comm. I don't consider mentioning a guest star or episode title as a spoiler

Makes me wonder too with the episode names and guest stars. Where is the spoiler there?

If anything the episode names get me thinking about what is going to happen.

That's exactly it! Especially with this show where the titles are in Hawaiian and you search for the English meaning and the word has TONS* of possibilities

*slight exaggeration, but sometimes Hawaiian words have few English meanings, therefore the episode title could be just about anything

Amen and amen!

The Spoiler Police are out of hand. I say live and let live. Or spoil and let spoil as the case may be.

exactly. I've stopped posting anything about the upcoming season in any comm. I don't want to deal with the hassle of having to cut that a particular actor is going to be on the show, or returning to the show.

I usually only ask someone to make a cut to a post if it happens to be like, 9 pages long. I know I sometimes forget to cut something that's long, but otherwise, yeah. It's your journal; you should have the freedom to post what you want. Unless you specifically asked people to say if they wanted to be spared from certain details about things and be on a filter, which you haven't. (Sorry, this got rambly. haha. Hopefully you get my point.)

I got what you mean. I do have some common sense and certain things I'll put in a cut tag, to save ppl's friend's page or because of the topic. I used to have filters, but never really used them

And sometimes there are the "Oh, I don't feel like putting it in a cut, so I won't" posts. Because there should be at least a couple of those.
