Hello and welcome to our mid-May through June long challenge: Three-Sentence Fics!

Running from May 11th to June 28th, this challenge is all about embracing brevity while still telling a complete story. The goal is simple: respond to each daily prompt with a fic made up of only three sentences. Simple…in theory. The fun (and challenge) comes in how much you can fit into those three lines.

Your sentences can be as long or as short as you like, and all fandoms are welcome—so feel free to wander wherever your imagination takes you.

We’re also keeping alive a concept Three-beat fic structure shared by Dreamy a few years back: your story can follow three “beats” instead of strict sentences—this happened, that happened, and then look what that caused. So whether you write exactly three sentences or shape your fic around three distinct moments, you’re good to go.

Each day, I’ll post a new prompt. This year’s inspiration comes from the growing stack of novels I’ve collected—thanks in no small part to the Book Club I somehow (and happily) fell into with my sorority. Take the prompts in any direction you like; interpretation is half the fun.

You can reply directly to the daily prompt, post a new entry here, or link out to your journal—whatever works best for you and your writing flow.

If anything’s unclear, don’t hesitate to ask. Otherwise, settle in, get creative, and enjoy the ride.

Most importantly—have fun with it.
Prompt 8: “Generally, by the time you are Real, most of your hair has been loved off, and your eyes drop out and you get loose in the joints and very shabby. But these things don’t matter at all, because once you are Real you can’t be ugly, except to people who don’t understand.” — Margery Williams, Velveteen Rabbit

Hi there! Hope the weekend's been treating you well. :3 Welcome to our weekly Lonely Prompts day. If this is your first time at [community profile] comment_fic on a Sunday, you can either request previous prompts to be filled or share your recent fills for prompts. (Or do both, of course!) ✎

How to look for prompts:
We have plenty of prompts that might just nibble away at your brain today. You can browse through the comm's calendar archive (here on LJ or here on DW) for themed and Free For All posts, or perhaps check out Sunday posts for Lonely Prompt requests. (Or, you can be like me, and try to save interesting prompts as you see 'em... and then end up with multiple text doc files full of [themes + links + prompts] that you can easily look through and search for keywords.) Multiple fills for one prompt are welcome, by the way! Oh, and you are very likely to find some awesome fills to read as well, and wouldn't it be nice to leave a comment on those lovely little writing distractions? ~_^

Whichever you decide to do, prompt or fill (or both), please remember:
1. You can only request five prompts to be filled.
2. You can request no more than three prompts from a particular fandom.
3. You can, however, fill as many prompts in as many fandoms as you'd like!
4. In the subject line, be sure to say whether it is a request or a fill!
5. You must link back to wherever the prompt is in the community archive (whether filling or requesting), and, if you're filling the prompt, please post the fill as a reply to the original prompt.
6. If you are filling an "any/any" prompt, please let us know what fandom you've written it for (or if it's original!).
8. If there are possible triggers in your story, please warn for them in the subject line!
7. If you've filled any lonely prompts in the past week, this is the place to share them!
9. Finally, please remember to add your prompt fills to our AO3 collection: Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2026 collection. See further notes on this option here.

How to link:
[a href="http://comment-fic.livejournal.com/449155.html?thread=70682755#t70682755">MCU, Tony Stark/Pepper Potts, She's wearing daisy dukes and one of his button-down shirts.[/a]

We are on AO3! If you fill a prompt and post it to AO3, please add it to the Bite Sized Bits of Fic from 2026 collection.

If you are viewing this post on our Dreamwidth site: please know that fills posted here will not show up as comments on our LiveJournal site, but you are still more than welcome to participate. =)

If you have a Dreamwidth account and would feel more comfortable participating there, please feel free to do so… and spread the word! [community profile] comment_fic

A friendly reminder about our posting schedule: Themed posts for new prompts go up on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Saturdays are a Free for All day for new prompts of any flavor. Sundays are for showing Lonely Prompts some love, whether by requesting for someone to adopt them or by sharing any fills that you've recently completed.

Sunday Word: Efficacious

May. 17th, 2026 11:14 am
sallymn: (words 6)
[personal profile] sallymn posting in [community profile] 1word1day

efficacious [ef-i-key-shuhs]

adjective:
capable of having the desired result or effect; effective as a means, measure, remedy, etc

Examples:

And on a less efficacious, more aesthetic note, many of these natural exfoliating formulas often deliver the same sleek aesthetics in their packaging and experience as prestige skin-care products. (Conçetta Ciarlo, Why I'm Opting for Exfoliating Deodorants This Spring, Vogue, March 2026)

At the end of the day, to suggest that plant medicine is not efficacious feels pretty silly to me. (Rachel King, The founder of wellness startup Mab & Stoke on the growth of 'pay what you can' options during the pandemic, Fortune, September 2020)

The muses may hold a pen in one hand and a smoke, or steaming mug, in the other - herbal remedies continue to be efficacious for writer’s block. (Alison Habens, A Brief History of the Muses, JSTOR Daily, October 2024)

Certainly the myth of the cowboy is an efficacious myth, one based first of all upon a deep response to nature. (Larry McMurtry, American Cowboys, Harper's Magazine, September 1968)

One of the best and most efficacious remedies would be for the person who has taken possession of them to go there to live. (Niccolò Machiavelli, The Prince)

Origin:
'sure to have the desired effect' (often of medicines), 1520s, from Latin efficaci-, stem of efficax 'powerful, effectual, efficient,' from stem of efficere 'work out, accomplish' + -ous. (Online Etymology Dictionary)

Efficacious came to English from the Middle French word efficace (or that word's Latin source, efficāc- or efficāx), meaning 'effective'. (These words ultimately trace back to the Latin verb efficere, 'to make, bring about, produce, carry out'.) English speakers added -ious to effectively create the word we know today. Efficacious is one of many, er, eff words that mean 'producing or capable of producing a result'. Among its synonyms are the familiar adjectives effective and efficient. Efficacious is more formal than either of these; it's often encountered in medical writing where it describes treatments, therapies, and drugs that produce their desired and intended effects in patients. (Merriam-Webster)

Hey, y'all! Welcome to the twentieth Free for All of the year! :D There are no themes to follow for prompts or fills. Btw, if you perhaps missed a prompt theme that you liked, or you've had any ideas that didn't really work with Tuesday's or Thursday's posts, then today's your chance to prompt 'em. Be free, and have fun! ✎

Just a few rules:
1. No more than five prompts in a row.
2. No more than three prompts in the same fandom.
3. Use the character's full name and the fandom's full name for ease in adding to the Lonely Prompts spreadsheet.
4. No spoilers in prompts for a month after airing, or use the spoiler cut option found here. Unfortunately, DW doesn’t have a cut tag, so use your best judgment when it comes to spoilers.
5. If your fill contains spoilers, warn and leave plenty of space, or use the spoiler cut.
6. If your story has possible triggers, please warn for them in the subject line!

Prompts should be formatted as follows: [Use the character's full names and fandom's full name]
Fandom, Character +/ Character, Prompt

Are today's prompts not catching your eye? No worries, because we have plenty of older prompts that just might do the trick! ~_^

I didn't get any writing done. I left early this morning (early for my day off) to buy a car... simply bc I had enough money after bills, and it's more cost- and time-effective for me to have a car rather than use public transportation. I can put in my full work hours and get a full paycheck!

BUT! I managed to post 2 fics that I finished writing this week. One is available now, and the other will be revealed on June 3.

Anyways, passing to [livejournal.com profile] flipflop_diva. Good luck!

I came in here to see if the Weekend Challenge had been posted today and then remembered that it was my week for it. Yikes. Since the Tony Awards were recently announced, I decided to gather a list of showtunes. Specifically 62 showtunes from the past 10 or so years of Tony nominations- we start with Hamilton and go through the current nominees.

So, pick a number or numbers from 1 to 62 or just ask for a random selection and I'll give you the corresponding song title. Write 200 words or make some art by the time the next Weekend Challenge is up and I'll reward you with a drabble or words to my WIP.

Happy writing!
