Jury Duty adventures
Jun. 13th, 2014 02:00 pmWoke up at 4:45am
Left home at 5:08am and drove to the train park and ride.
Caught the train. Caught my connecting bus. Walked 2 blocks and caught a second bus.
Got to the courthouse and waited in line for 40 minutes.
My childhood friend's mother was working at this courthouse. Spoke with her for a couple of minutes before they started the orientation.
Sat around until about 10am before a doozy of a case was brought up.
This case though, the only one they pulled jurors for, that was scheduled to be 70 DAYS (ending at the end of September)! OMG! People groaned at that. The jurors had the option to say yes or no. The ones who said yes were applauded, the ones who said no had to tell the worker why, and then that worker either said it was up to the judge or they would be picked for another case.
Part of me hoped I'd be called, but they said that if you were unemployed and actively looking for work not to say yes if your name was called. I am in that category. I'm waiting to hear back from a couple of places in regards to 2nd interviews and/or job offers.
But...my name wasn't called. And at noon, they excused us. Told us we didn't have to worry about getting a summons for another year.
Instead of taking the 2 hour route home, I took the all train route which saved me about 30 minutes as I got back to the park and ride an hour and a half after I left the courthouse.
Drove home with very little problems from the car, and now I'm going to make something to eat!

Date: 2014-06-14 02:54 am (UTC)Coming home it was the red line to the blue line to the green line and I ended at the park and ride where I parked the car. It would have been so much easier and I could have maybe slept in for 30 mins.
But I don't have to worry about it until next year! :)

Date: 2014-06-14 03:25 am (UTC)That sounds fun. I wish one of the rail lines ran near Torrance. So not fair!
That's always good!

Date: 2014-06-14 03:41 am (UTC)I was surprised to see that a Torrance bus goes all the way to downtown LA! I think it was the #1? I don't remember. I just saw a sign for Torrance Transit and was like woah!

Date: 2014-06-14 04:01 am (UTC)Yep, the #1. I used to take it before the MTA launched the Silver Line, which is so much faster. The #1 winds around city streets after a certain point (like, Watts or Gardena or something) from the freeway, and the Silver just does the straight up and down the 110 between the Harbor Gateway Transit Center (by the 91 freeway exit) and Adams. Then it goes up Figueroa and around downtown, which isn't so bad. But yeah, the #1 goes from Del Amo Mall in Torrance to Union Station. I've been on the last bus from LA, which leaves at 10pm and gets back to Torrance at like 11-11:20 or something. SCARY.
... oh wait. It used to be the #1, but now it's the #4 that runs downtown. It still runs a long way, and nowhere really near my house. I'd probably have to go to Del Amo to catch it, because for some stupid reason they do an End of Line for the Gardena 2 at Normandie/PCH, make you get off the bus, and walk to the next stop and pay again. I hate that.
