how to I get my Word spell checker to stay in US English?

This fic I'm beta reading was written with a version of Word from Ireland, so the spell checker/dictionary that's coming up is using English from Ireland. My Hawaiian words, contractions and slang words are coming up as wrong. It's also saying the grammar is wrong as well.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Sure! It might be a little different in your Word version but I have 2003.

Down at the bottom of the Word window, there may be things like
REC
TRK
EXT
OVR

Those should all be grayed out. Next to it may say something like English (UK). Double-click on that sucka and pick English (US). Maybe also uncheck the "automatically detect language" thing--hope that helps!

It is saying the grammar is wrong? That's is weird! I have my word set to US english (too lazy to change it) and it picks up on my realising and recognising etc. I assume I write like a British person but it never says my grammar is wrong! Even when it (often) is...
