30 will be...okay?

Since my birthday is on a Sunday this year (9-9) and ALL OTHER PLANS I've made to celebrate turning 30 have fallen through, these are my tentative b-day plans:
church *grumbles*
lunch
The Wine Bar ([Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] says they're really slow on Sundays)
sleep

and that's about all I've got planned. I need friends who live closer and my own place so I can have people over to celebrate.

The Saturday before (9-8), I'm hoping to go to a baseball game (Angels v Tigers) and hopefully my parents, sister and maybe Marlin & Jasmine can go with (if the tickets aren't too expensive)

I'm like the queen of screwy birthday plans... growing up, I had to have my August birthday celebrated a lot of times in November because everyone was on vacation! So I say, if other people and plans fall through, do something for yourself that know you'll enjoy. Even if it's the tiniest little thing on your birthday. Then your birthday can't suck!

that is very true. I'm almost always by myself that I wanted to do something with a group, but if all else fails, I will treat myself to something (movie, dinner and a tattoo lol).

I'm actually surprised I'm going to Catalina by myself for my birthday. But I might as well do something fun, since it's free and all to go over. You could totally do that too, if you wanted, after church. On your birthday, fare on the Catalina Express is free. For the day of your birthday, fare looks like either $72.50 RT or $102.50 if you paid. Yikes.

Oh, those are the prices from the terminal by the Queen Mary. I guess the terminal I'm using for my trip, SP, only has one seating area available.

Hmm, maybe I'll do that instead of going to church lol but ugh, they told me they were doing something for me after church or whatever.

how long were you planning on staying?

Oh hmm... I'd say, you might as well go! They did this promotion last year and I signed up, but then I didn't end up going. So when they extended it for this year, I had to go! So if you do want to go, sign up on the Catalina Express website. They'll send you an email with a code, and then go make reservations using the code. I think you have until two weeks before your birthday to do it? I don't remember, I might be wrong lol

My boat from the SP cruise port leaves at 10:45am, and I leave Avalon on the 5:15. I don't know what I'm going to do once I actually get to the island. But at least I'm going "somewhere" for my birthday. I'm excited! 4 more days!!

Oh yeah, and I found this hilarious. You have to go to Catalina on your birthday, but you have 30 days to return back to the mainland. I wonder if anyone's actually camped out or lived on the island for a month and come back.

I signed up and thought that was funny too. I don't know what all is there to justify spending 30 days there. maybe 2 or 3 days at the most, but not a month.

I was thinking about getting the last boat from downtown LB to Avalon on my bday, then actually spending all of the 10th there and coming back later in the day...or once I'd done everything I wanted to do.

It might be kinda fun, if I knew someone or rented a place on the island and stayed. It'd be different.

That could be fun. All the places I looked at were really pricey around my birthday. Maybe by your birthday it'll be off-season-ish. If I'd planned this a little bit better, I'd actually leave for Catalina earlier (or leave for home a bit later) so I could go up to the airport and eat a buffalo burger. I know there are probably places down in Avalon where I could do that, but it's fun taking that little shuttle on the bumpy dirt road.
